Jim Parham has forty-two years experience in the transportation industry. His knowledge of all segments of the trucking industry contributes to his strong reputation among transportation executives from succession planning and exit strategies to human resources management. For the last 28 years, Jim has been President of Jim Parham & Associates, Inc., a widely regarded transportation human resources consulting firm. Before founding JP & A, he served as Vice President of Human Resources at Watkins Motor Lines, one of the largest non-union LTL carriers in the industry. As a member of the senior management team, Jim successfully guided the Human Resources function through the deregulation of the trucking industry and the rapid growth years following deregulation. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Piedmont College where he has served as a Board of Trustee member for 15 years. He also served as President of the Alumni Association and received a distinguished Alumni Award in 2001.

Representative Experience

  • As Vice President of Human Resources, successfully directed accelerated trans-continental expansion during rapid growth years immediately prior and following deregulation while maintaining non-union status.
  • Successfully guided management restructuring of a publicly traded carrier resulting in greatly improved share value prior to sell.
  • Assisted family-owned carrier in successful merger of two business segments resulting in a stronger management structure, while allowing buyout of family member seeking exit from the business.
  • Assisted aging ownership of buyout by management team resulting in greatly enhanced share value of $70+ million revenue carrier.
  • Successfully negotiated resolution of family dispute resulting in buyout of family member and renewed the family relationship.
  • Performed numerous Human Resource Management Assessments that achieved enhanced organizational flowchart depth improving profitability.

Favorite Trucking Memory

Seeing the trucking industry prosper with rapid growth during the early ‘80’s when many predicted the total collapse of the industry prior to deregulation.
